I made several improvements, cosmetic and functional, along the way in this restoration:
Replaced the fragile, original lamp sockets with PCBs
Used Swinks tombstone Stern repro drop targets for all banks
Added the Arduino CPU mod for custom scoring rules, digital stereo sound effects, and voice call-outs giving the game a whole new feel (reversible back to the original code with a toggle switch).
To augment the full digital stereo capabilities of the Arduino mod, a small audio amplifier (mounted on the external rear of the backbox) was added to drive external speakers mounted on top of the backbox. The speakers are “rock” speakers repainted to the Meteor pin colors to resemble actual meteors in a continuation of the pin’s color theme.
Modified the apron to accommodate an HD video screen driven by a RaspberryPi that showcases the new ruleset via a slideshow.
